Personal Disability Insurance

While you may be covered under your employer's worker's compensation, this program only covers you while you are at work. Also, this coverage is based on your "net income". This means that you would receive 66 2/3 of your net income or about 50% of your take home pay. If you are concerned about what would happen if your were injured or ill outside of work hours or you would not have sufficient funds to recover on 50% of your income you may benefit from private disability insurance.

Private insurance can "top up" your government sponsored program so that you are able to benefit from 66 2/3 of your "gross" income. This means that you can supplement your "at work" income.

If you are concerned about non work injury or illness you can purchase disability insurance which would be based on 66 2/3 of your gross income during your non-work hours, that is, evenings and weekends. If you are concerned about "top-up" or non work hours then you may benefit from a review and you should contact us for a consultation. Remember most accidents happen in the home! Or, on the ski slope....read this article about how private disability insurance can help you.
